SURREY - A semi-trailer hit a 50-year-old woman while she was crossing a busy street in Guildford this morning, killing her.
Police suspect the truck ran a red light.
"Early indications are that is the case," Surrey RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger said.
The collision happened at 7:20 a.m., in the 14800-block of 104th Avenue. The woman was crossing at a crosswalk.
Her name has not been released. She is the sixth pedestrian to be killed in Surrey this year. So far, the city has had 12 traffic fatalities in 2012.
The intersection will be closed until at least 1 p.m. as police analyze the scene and interview witnesses.
Grainger said the truck driver wasn't injured and is cooperating with investigators.
