Dave Hayer, Tory MP?

Maybe.

"I haven't decided what I'm going to do," the Liberal MLA for Surrey-Tynehead replied when asked if he's considering a run for federal office under the Conservative banner in the 2015 election.

Hayer said people have been telling him he "should think about federal politics."

The Tories asked him to run as their candidate in Newton-North Delta in the May 2012 federal election, but he declined.

That riding is currently held by NDP MP Jinny Sims.

After serving as a Liberal MLA for 11 years, Hayer has decided not to run for political office in the May 14, 2013 provincial election as he has "achieved virtually" all the goals he set out to accomplish in provincial politics.

If he does decide to run for the Tories, it would likely be in the new North Surrey-Guildford riding proposed by the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission. That riding, Hayer noted, would contain about 95 per cent of his Surrey-Tynehead riding.

Whatever he decides, you can expect to see him continue to be active in community service after his final provincial term runs its course.

"I want to serve in the same area I live in," Hayer said. "Still, Ottawa is a long way to fly."
