
SURREY - Dan Minor's singing took him to the top at Crescent Gardens Retirement Community's Senior Star competition.
Minor was named regional Senior Star, while Averill Orchover was the first runner up and Dorothy Perkins came third.
Now in its sixth year, Senior Star - a singing and musical instrument competition - is open to anyone 65 years and over and a Canadian resident. The local audition took place on June 21 at Crescent Gardens Retirement Community.
During the regional competitions, contestant were given a maximum of five minutes to sing a song, play an instrument, or do both, and their performance was videotaped. The competition outcome was decided by a panel of three judges, made up of local musical experts, government officials, and media representatives.
The winners were presented with a Senior Star trophy and the top two winners advance for consideration for Chartwell's Senior Star National Final.
Videos of the first and second place winners from across Canada will be considered by a celebrity panel of judges who will narrow the list to 10 competitors. Those people will be invited to compete in the Senior Star National Final, held on Nov. 19 in Niagara Falls, Ont.
