I must respond to letter writer David Woodward who, incredibly, admits that he has been driving for more than 60 years and did not know it was illegal to turn into the right lane when making a left-hand turn.
I find that disturbing but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I have been driving for 45 years and one of my pet peeves has been not being able to make a safe legal right-hand turn because the oncoming cars turning left are turning into the right lane.
I am pleased to hear that RCMP are focusing on this dangerous driving behavior.
Woodward's decision not to fight the ticket is the right one as he would surely lose. Perhaps his time would be more wisely spent taking a refresher course on the basic rules of the road.
