Tax change is fishy

The Editor,

I, presumably alongside many taxpayers, received a letter from Revenue Canada advising that TELEFILE has been discontinued as an option for filing tax returns.

This was a free, environmentally-friendly option for Canadians to file their taxes. Now the main options are seeking out and finding the bulky tax packages - which have wisely been discontinued as a standard item delivered to taxpayers and probably never used - or paying for software from a large corporation.

Call me cynical if you will, but I can only see this as this government again pandering to the interests of large corporations, rather than giving ordinary Canadians the option of using an automated service.

I wonder why the government has silently made this change. In effect, we are being virtually forced to either pay for something which we are legally required to do, or further contribute to environmental degradation. I would wonder if there is something unconstitutional about this.
