Coast Capital Savings has awarded a number of grants for youth-focused organizations to improve programs and services in Surrey.
The 2013 Surrey grant recipients are: Surrey school district ($25,000), Alexandra Neighbourhood House ($15,000), Surrey Libraries ($15,000), SALI's Farm ($5,000), Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society ($10,000), Learning Disabilities Association -Fraser South Chapter ($14,480), and Guildford Park Community Group Society ($7,500).
TELUS EMPLOYEES GIVE TO PAH
Jim Turnbull of Team Telus has presented a cheque for $4,020 to the Peace
Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation. Team members and retirees make donations that the telecom matches them dollar for dollar.
DELTA HOSPICE GETS A BOOST
Delta Hospice also received a $2,000 donation from the Royal Canadian Legion #61. Members Olwen Demidoff and Steve Henderson presented the gift to Laurine Kelly, the hospice's associate director.
NEW FOOD BANK TO SERVE MORE
Sources Food Bank has moved to a new location to meet the needs of South Surrey and White Rock's most vulnerable people, and has gotten a helping hand to do so from Vancity, which donated $8,000 to Sources' Build Our Bank campaign.
The food bank has seen demand grow over the years and now provides support to 560 people each week. In addition to food, Sources provides clothing, access to community supports and other forms of assistance to its clients.
PIRATES PACK IN LOT OF CHARITY
White Spot's sixth annual Pirate Pak Day, held Aug. 15, raised a record $65,916 to send kids and youth with special needs to Zajac Ranch for Children.
The restaurant chain donates $2 per child and adult Pirate Pak, plus contributions received in lieu of Pirate Paks, to Zajac Ranch, an established charity that gives British Columbian children who face lifethreatening illnesses and chronic disabilities an unforgettable camp experience.
"Pirate Pak Day has once again resulted in an incredible outpouring of generosity from White Spot guests," said Warren Erhart, White Spot president.
"This year we sold 32,458 Pirate Paks to both the young and young-at-heart, providing the opportunity for us to help even more kids enjoy life-changing experiences at Zajac Ranch."
