White Rock Museum and Archives invites everyone to celebrate the Year of the Snake by taking in the travelling exhibit Chinese Legacies.

The exhibit began as a collaborative project between Revelstoke Railway Museum and Revelstoke Museum and Archives.

The exhibit, Chinese Legacies: Building the Canadian Pacific Railway, featured at Revelstoke Railway Museum since 2008, explores the fascinating story of the Chinese labourers who contributed to the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway between Port Moody and Craigellachie. This presentation of their travel to British Columbia, their living and working conditions and the contribution they made to the construction of the railway has been visited by thousands over the past two and a half years, and has been travelling to other museum venues since 2011.

In White Rock, visitors will see a diorama of a campsite, artifacts such as an opium pipe and incense burner, video, photo slide show and an interactive station for children.

As well, the museum is featuring artwork created by young artists and members of White Rock Chinese Arts Centre to coincide with the main travelling exhibit. Other items featured, on now to March 26, include historical ceramics, sculptures and textiles.

White Rock Museum and Archives is at 14970 Marine Dr., in the historical train station, and is open Tuesday to Friday 10: 30 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
