When metal artist Don Francis took one of his striking eagle creations to Crescent Beach for a recent photo shoot, along came a young man named Ethan (pictured) with a creature of his own: a pet hawk in training, resulting in an intriguing encounter of birds of prey. Francis, based in North Delta, has turned a trade in metal work into an artistic pursuit that has involved hand-forging three such eagles in recent years, with a fourth on the way. Some time ago, he sold one of his creations for a cool $15,000. For a closer look at his work, see www.thefrancisgallery.com.
