The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death of a 15-year-old North Delta boy who sustained a serious head injury at McCloskey elementary school.
The teen, whose name has not been released, died in Royal Columbian Hospital on Aug. 10, six days after he was injured.
"It's tragic," Delta Police Sgt. Ciaran Feenan said.
"It appears he may have hit his head during a fall. He was playing with his friends."
Feenan said the "devastating accident" happened on the basketball court at the side of the school, located at 11531 80th Ave. in North Delta.
Police had initially sought witnesses.
"It's not a police investigation any more," Feenan said.
Barb McLintock, spokeswoman for the coroners service, said Wednesday that the boy's death is still being investigated and as such no conclusion has been reached as to what caused it.
