Surrey's Meigan Picard, 11, is on her way to Boston Ballet School's Summer Dance Program for a second time, after being chosen from more than 2,400 students who auditioned in 33 cities around the world.

For Meigan, it will mean training for up to six hours a day at the ballet school, largest of its kind in North America.

Meigan, trained since 2008 at Flora Pigeau Dance Academy in Surrey, is currently working with Danielle Gardner, a fellow Surrey resident and recent finalist on TV's So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

SUMNER AT SEMIAHMOO ARTS

Melissa Sumner is the new manager of Semiahmoo Arts.

"Melissa brings a background of business skills, interior design and art instruction to the position," said Barbara Cooper, president of the organization. "As well, she is a member of the South Surrey & White Rock Art Society and has ties to the local music scene."

Meanwhile, the arts council's "other" Melissa, Melissa Tarrant, has moved back to Newfoundland and continues to publish the arts council's newsletter from afar.

Semiahmoo Arts' new space at Centennial Park is be readied by Niamh Tracey, in charge of rentals there. "Our principal room can accommodate workshops, exhibitions, or just be a place to meet," Cooper said. "We also have modest kitchen facilities."

For rentals at the Mel Edwards building space, call 604-536-8333 or visit during office hours - Wednesday to Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
