Four very different "sisters" are at the heart of a family-friendly musical that takes the stage in North Delta from Dec. 28 to 30.
Eighteen high school and university students sing, dance and act in A Little Musical About Little Women, based on the Louisa May Alcott novel.
The story follows the adventures of four sisters, played by Shayla Hastings-Williams (the elegant Meg), Kyla Pires (proper Amy), Whitney Millar (literary-mind Jo) and Krystyna Pangilinan (gentle Beth).
"It's about them growing up, falling in love, fighting with each other, all those real-life things," said show director Kazandra Pangilinan. "It's a very family-oriented show about appreciating what you have, counting your blessings - a good Christmas story."
The show is brought to the stage at Seaquam Secondary by KP Productions, a non-profit theatre company with a goal to give students a chance to perform outside of high school.
Money raised at the three by-donation shows next week will be given to The Centre for Child Development in Surrey.
"If we raise around $3,000 with the show this year, that'd be great - $1,000 a night," said Pangilinan.
With three productions to date, the company has raised more than $6,000 for charity, she added.
On Monday afternoon and evening, the actors rehearsed the lively show onstage at Seaquam, using headset microphones and backed by mostly recorded music.
"This is our second time rehearsing in the theatre here," Pangilinan said. "This year we've used a few different rehearsal spaces, including our garage, which didn't work out because it got too cold, and our living room, with the furniture pushed out.. We're lucky to get enough sponsors to help pay for things like this rehearsal space (at the school)."
Show times are 7: 30 p.m. nightly for A Little Musical About Little Women at Seaquam Secondary, 11584 Lyon Rd.
