Piper Jack Lee brought home more hardware from a competition in Scotland this month.

The Surrey musician, pipe sergeant of the acclaimed SFU Pipe Band, earned second place at a prestigious solo contest in Oban, in the march, strathspey and reel category of the Argyllshire Gathering.

The competition is open to previous goldmedal bagpipers at the Highland Society of London event, won twice by Lee, in 1981 and again in 2001.

"It's all the top pipers in the world," Lee told the Now.

"Competitive piping is a very vibrant world."

Meanwhile, Lee's son Andrew placed near the top of the field in three piping contests at the huge Cowal highland games.

The senior SFU pipe band, which rehearses in Jack Lee's Surrey backyard, placed third at the world championships in Scotland earlier this month.

Lee returns to Scotland next week for another competition, this time in Inverness.
