The Editor,
Re: "Surrey lets animal lovers down by turfing BCSPCA," the Now, March 20.
I just finished reading Bruce Wyder's letter to the Now about the City of Surrey recently turfing the BCSPCA from looking after its kennels and giving the responsibility to the B.C. Corps of Commissionaires.
As an animal lover and proud supporter of the BCSPCA and other animal welfare organizations, I cannot tell you how disheartened I am to learn of this.
Shame on you, Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts and her city council.
I no longer have the same admiration for you all. In my opinion, this is such disregard for animal life.
It is one thing to put down an animal that is sick or seriously injured, but to put a healthy animal down after three days for corporate efficiency is appalling and disgusting.
I would like to know what it would take to change this pathetic rule.
