The White Rock Players' Club production of The Lion in Winter is the Greater Vancouver zone entry in this year's Mainstage event, Theatre B.C.'s annual provincial community theatre festival, in Kamloops.

Prior to the festival, there will be one encore performance of the show, written by James Goldman and directed by Dale Kelly, at Coast Capital Playhouse (1532 Johnston Rd., White Rock), on Tuesday, July 3 at 8 p.m.

"This will be the last chance to see this award-winning production locally," Marlet Magnusson, who is publicizing the show, told the Now.

"Entry will be by donation, which will help the club with the significant expense of sending the show to Kamloops to represent our region.

Just as importantly, she added, "having an audience (at the theatre) gives the cast and crew the invaluable timing and feedback to sharpen their performance for the competition."

For show and ticket information, visit www.whiterockplayers.ca or call 604-536-7535.

The Mainstage event is online at www.tbcmainstage.ca. The festival starts June 30; White Rock Players' Club's The Lion in Winter is due on stage at noon Friday, July 6 at Sagebrush Theatre in Kamloops. Ten plays from 10 theatre zones around B.C. will be staged at the festival.
