Surrey company buys prestigious theatre in heart of Beverly Hills

Locally-based Lightyear Digital Theatre (Canada) Ltd. now has a Hollywood gem in its pocket.

The company has acquired the legendary Charles Aidikoff Screening Room - at 150 Rodeo Dr. in the heart of the prestigious Beverly Hills 90210 "Golden Triangle."

The highly technically advanced private theatre is certified by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Academy screenings and often hosts the who's who of the movie business.

Bob Dominick is not only a long-time Surrey resident, he is president and CEO of Lightyear and the current president of the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association.

"The name of this theatre has a long history attached to it as the Aidikoff family has been in the business of motion picture exhibition since the days of silent film," said Dominick.

"The former owner, Charlie Aidikoff, at the age of 93 is a Hollywood legend himself; he's known by everyone in the industry and will remain welcome at the theatre for as long as he wishes."

Lightyear is the company that installed the world-class "showcase" high-definition digital and 3D research and development theatre system at the SFU Surrey campus.

The SFU and Beverly Hills theatres will be doing interactive broadcasts to allow students to communicate directly with motion picture and entertainment industry celebrities and executives, said Dominick.
