March will be show time at arenas throughout Surrey as three figure skating clubs will stage their biannual ice carnivals.
The White Rock/South Surrey Skating Club kicks things off Saturday, March 2 at South Surrey Arena with "An Evening at the Oscars," complete with 170 skaters saluting silver-screen classics such as Avatar, Star Wars, Madagascar, Gone with the Wind and many more.
"The show is huge for the kids; without a doubt it is the highlight of the year," said WRSSSC president Siobhan Philips. "For a lot of the kids, they don't get to compete until they are older, so the ice show is their only opportunity to shine. And they do."
The skaters hit the ice for two shows, at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or in advance at Centennial Arena or South Surrey Arena.
North Surrey Skating Club will stage its ice carnival on Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m., at North Surrey Arena. The theme for this year's show is "Just Cruizin'," featuring the cultures and countries of popular cruise ship destinations. Tickets are available at the door.
Cloverdale Skating Club wraps up ice-carnival season with three "Wild, Wild West" shows March 15 and 16 at Cloverdale Arena. The Friday show goes at 7 p.m., followed by two shows Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m.
