The Great Pumpkin Run/Walk has blown past its organizers' fundraising target.
The Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation's 6th Annual National Bank Financial Great Pumpkin Run/Walk was held in October with the hope of generating $80,000. The foundation has just announced the event has raised more than $100,000 as the donations kept rolling in afterward.
"This event allows the community to come together for a healthy event, where we literally walk the walk toward our vision of becoming the healthiest community possible,"said Jackie Smith, executive director of Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation. "We are very grateful to all those who took part."
This year's participants were an enthusiastic bunch, with individuals and team fundraisers where people collected donations from their friends, family and colleagues.
There were corporate partners who pitched in as well, with more than $2,000 donated by McJac's Roadhouse Grill and the White Spot locations at Morgan Crossing and White Rock donating $1,000.
Both businesses were bustling with customers on the morning of the event, with runners looking to refuel afterward.
Proceeds from the event will support Peace Arch Hospital's emergency room.
Plans are already underway for next year's Great Pumpkin Run/Walk, which is set for Oct. 20, 2013.
