Red 93.1 FM held its eighth annual Radiothon to raise $800,000 for the Mata Tripta Family Birthing Unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital, the second busiest birthing unit in the province.

By 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, more than 400 people had visited the radio station and donated $200,000. Many others donated by phone or online.

Jane Adams, president and CEO of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, said the turnout this year has been spectacular.

"We've had streams of people arriving since 6 a.m.," she said. "It's just outstanding."

The Radiothon ended late Wednesday but those interested in donating can give online at smhfoundation.com or by calling 604588-3371.
