THE EDITOR:

Many thanks to the two people who stopped to help with our dog, Moose, when we were walking in Tynehead Park on Monday, Jan 9.

On our way back to our car, Moose started walking funny, collapsed and would not get up again. Moose weighed 80-plus pounds, and I could not carry him. A lady walking her dogs offered to go get a blanket from her car to make a sling to carry him in. While we were talking, a man walking his dogs stopped to say he would carry him to our car, which he did. He had to put Moose down a couple of times, but persevered and got him to our car. I cannot tell you how much your kindness and unselfishness meant to me and my family - strangers stopping to help others in distress.

It turns out Moose was suffering from kidney failure and other problems, and the very difficult decision to put him to rest was chosen. He was a gentle giant and we miss him terribly, but thinking of the help of strangers has made his passing a little easier. I did not get your names, but we thank you so much.
