Re: "Premier helps celebrate opening of Surrey's new ER," the Now, Oct. 10.
I was thrilled to see Surrey has finally gotten the well-deserved hospital expansion after a long, hard-fought battle by our NDP MLAs, who made this possible for our grand city. I was shocked, as well as disappointed, that they were not invited to participate in the grand opening and ribbon cutting for this magnificent new ER. This hospital was built due to the persistence and constant reiterating of the NDP MLAs, fighting for the importance of this hospital for the growing population of Surrey and surrounding areas.
The very disappointing fact is that they were not invited to attend the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony. It reminds me of my younger years when I was not invited to my 10-year-old friend's birthday, just to be spiteful - very childish in my opinion.I do not believe this hospital would have been built out of the kindness of our government without our opposition NDP MLAs and community activists who persistently made sure that Surrey was not a forgotten area outside of Vancouver. By leaving the MLAs out, Christy Clark is showing her childish partisan ways.
There are times to leave all differences aside - don't you think?
