WEDNESDAY, FEB. 29

Terry Fox Library hosts a family play and learn event from 5: 30 to 7: 30 p.m. on the ground level of Coquitlam Centre. Join librarians as they help kids imagine, play and learn through stories, songs and crafts. Sessions take place on the last Wednesday of each month. The theme of the Feb. 29 session is Marvellous Math. Registration is not required for this free drop-in program.

Maillardville Community Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at ABC Country Restaurant at Lougheed Highway and Schoolhouse Street in Coquitlam. Info: 604-464-1808.

Alzheimer' Society of B.C. hosts caregiver support groups. Tilopa Kadampa Buddhist Centre hosts a meditation class focused on "turning stress into peace of mind," from 7 to 8: 30 p.m. at the Oasis Wellness Centre, 1111 Austin Ave. in Coquitlam. The cost is $10 (free for centre cardholders).

SHARE Family & Community Services hosts a free education session for those who have an alcohol or drug problem or for those concerned about their use. The format consists of a video, a brief presentation and an open discussion. The topic for Feb. 29 is "Trauma: How substance misuse often occurs with people who have experienced child abuse." Burquitlam Community Association meets on the first Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at Banting Middle School, 820 Banting St., Coquitlam.

Place des Arts hosts an opening reception for Benoi Deschênes' exhibit, Saint-Jean-Port-Joli/Maillardville - Village to Village, which explores Canadian heritage in wood portraiture and oil painting. The artist will be in attendance at the reception, which starts at 7 p.m. at 1120 Brunette Ave. in Coquitlam.

FRIDAY, MARCH 2

Place Maillardville hosts a Baby's First Year guest speaker session with Christine Baron, who will discuss wills and estates, from 1: 45 to 3: 15 p.m. at 1200 Cartier Ave. in Coquitlam. This is a free dropin session. Registration is not required. Information: 604-933-6166.

Wow Community Leadership Society hosts the fifth annual Wow Extravaganza, showcasing speaking talent at Port Moody's Inlet Theatre, at 7 p.m. Rotary, Lions, Eagles, Optimists and Toastmasters will be represented. Speakers include Toastmaster (District 21) B.C. Humorous Speaking Champion Ken Barr.
