A Father's Day they almost didn't have

Editor, the Times:

As we pass Father's Day we are reminded of April 17, because of the quick actions of our son-in-law Steve Stewart, a dad who without hesitation applied his knowledge of CPR to help Colin, his father-in-law, survive a massive heart attack.

Along with him was another dad, Steve Parks, there to pick up his daughter from school who also had CPR training and rushed to help.

Together they worked to save the life of my husband Colin, another dad and grandfather.

No words can ever express our gratitude, also to our daughters Sharon and Julie who were there by our side with support during the difficult days along with our other children, family and friends.

Thank you to Abbotsford Firefighters, Scott Ellis, Capt. Jim Durvin, and Gregg Heron. We hope this past Father's Day was as happy for them as it is for us. A special thanks to Fire Chief Beer and Mayor Banman.

We would also like to thank the emergency staff at Abbotsford Regional Hospital for their wonderful initial care of Colin. This surely contributed to his survival before being transported to Royal Columbian Hospital for surgery.

Strangers stepping up to help work together prove that we must always do what we can in an emergency situation.

The doctors and surgeons have all attributed Colin's survival to fast-action CPR.
