VOLUNTEERING

Become a volunteer literacy tutor and help a child who is struggling with reading and writing. "The Learning Disabilities Association (Fraser South) offers extensive training and mentorship when you commit to our spring session of tutoring." White Rock RCMP Community Policing is looking for volunteers. "If you have 100 hours a year to spare and want to join our team, please contact Julia Everett at 778-5933611. Activities include Van Patrol, Bike Patrol, Speed Watch and more. Applicants must be prepared to pass a security assessment, which takes about four months to process."

Fraser Health Crisis Line is recruiting volunteers to provide assistance to people in the region who are experiencing emotional distress. ACTIVITIES

White Rock Drum Circle "Rhythm Friends": "Bring your drum, percussion instrument or old pail and join in this fun community drum circle. Improvise to gether and create music on the spot." Gatherings are Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. at White Rock Community Centre (hall B), 15154 Russell Ave. Drop-in fee is $3.

Newcomers Club of White Rock and South Surrey is a club for women who are new to the area. S.U.C.C.E.S.S., a multi-lingual, multi-cultural, non-profit settlement service agency at #206-10090 152nd St., Surrey, serves Filipino caregivers, immigrants and their families, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Issues addressed include education, labour market information, immigration, housing and child care.
