Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis has left the building - and entered the Surrey Marathon! The reigning 2013 Legends Waikiki Elvis Champion, Eli 'Tigerman' Williams, will be bringing the smooth sounds and signature moves of the Rock 'n' Roll King to the Surrey Marathon's Cultural Mile stage.
Watching the passion, energy, and sheer musical talent behind one of Williams' award-winning performances, it's hard to believe he began his illustrious career as an Elvis impersonator just six short years ago. Even more impressive is the fact that he has earned his reputation only moonlighting as an Elvis tribute entertainer, putting in long hours on evenings and weekends, all while working a full time job in graphic design.
Williams' fascination with Elvis began as a child, when he would listen to his grandmother's vinyl records, and soon grew into a great admiration for the unparalleled stylings of the King of Rock 'n' Roll. He started out in karaoke, and shortly after met Surrey's own Brian Simpson, 4-time World Champion and instructor of the World's only Elvis school, Elvis 101, who taught him the moves that skyrocketed him to Tribute stardom.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of Eli's young career was winning the Grand Champion crown at the 2012 Pacific Northwest Elvis Festival (an annual EPE registered event held in Penticton). With that win he was entered into the Ultimate Elvis, World Championships in Memphis, Tennessee, where he finished Top 15 in the King of the World out of 96 competitors and Top 29 in the world in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, EPE's official Tribute Artist Contest. Less than a year later, he secured the first Ultimate Elvis qualifier spot for the 2013 World Championships where he had yet another impressive showing.
Williams has competed in over 15 contests across the globe, and despite having lost his jumpsuitfilled luggage on the way to Memphis this past August, he'll be rockin' out in style at the 2013 Surrey Marathon.
