The body of missing Surrey resident Kevin Fry was discovered on Saturday, nearly a month after he went missing on New Year's Day.

Found in a wooded area close to his home in the 15400-block of Fraser Heights, 20-year-old Fry's body was discovered by a team of friends and family who had organized a volunteer search effort last weekend.

Cpl. Bert Paquet of the Surrey RCMP said foul play is not suspected.

"It's just a sad end to this investigation," said Paquet, adding RCMP had searched the area previously, but was unsure if that specific site had been looked at.

"I know we have searched several wooden areas in that immediate neighbourhood, I'm not sure if that area had been searched or not but one can assume that it had not," he said.

"It's an area of town with several wooded areas and we had searched there with search and rescue as well as police dog services, but those had turned up nothing."

Police thanked volunteers for their efforts and Paquet expressed his sympathies to the family.

"It has to be devastating for any mother to lose a son, especially in those circumstances and I know a lot of work and effort had been done, not only from our investigators' perspective but from friends and family working non-stop and spreading the information and asking for tips," he said.

Fry's father, Glenn, went missing back in 2000 and has not been seen since.

"We had received many tips and followed up on them always hoping for a positive conclusion to our files so this is heartbreaking for everybody involved in this case," said Paquet.
