Canada clarifications

The Editor,

Re: "Canada Day has changed," the Now, June 28.

I think that when Samuel Johnson said "patriotism" he was actually referring to false patriotism, and he was probably referring to Edmond Burke, who was quite controversial at the time. Patriotism, in my view, is an honourable trait.

Also, the column said Canada entered the Second World War a year after Britain, which entered the war on Sept. 1, 1939.

Canada actually entered the war nine days later on Sept. 10, 1939. I remember it well!
