Homicide investigators have released the name of Surrey's latest murder victim but are not saying how Jaskaran Singh Sandhu, 26, died.

Sandhu's body was found Monday in the grass beside Colebrook Road, in the 12300block, after police received a 911 call.

He's Surrey's fifth homicide victim of 2013.

"Mr. Sandhu was known to police and is the victim of a targeted attack," said Cpl. Adam MacIntosh, spokesman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. "Investigators continue to search for the motive behind his killing including the possibility of being gang related."

Sandhu had survived an attempt on his life at a Mr. Lube on Barnett Highway in Coquitlam, in September 2011.

MacIntosh said investigators want to speak with anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the 12300-block of Colebrook Road or surrounding area on Sunday night or early Monday morning.

Police are asking people with information to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551IHIT(4448) or contact investigators by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
