An 84-year-old Surrey man died of a heart attack after his Grand Marquis crashed into a concrete barrier at the intersection of 28th Avenue and 188th Street on Saturday morning.

Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said investigators suspect the man, whose name has not been released, was in medical distress prior to the crash, which happened at 11:30 a.m.

Nobody else was injured as the driver was alone.

Paquet said there was no evidence that the man tried to brake. When Surrey firefighters arrived, Paquet said, "they had found the male in full cardiac arrest."

He died at the scene. Police and the BC Coroners Service are investigating.
