Veteran Liberal MLA Gordon Hogg has decided to seek a fourth term as MLA in Surrey-White Rock in the May 14 provincial election.

On Tuesday night, Hogg was acclaimed the Liberals' candidate for the 2013 election.

"It'll be one of the more difficult elections I'll be involved in," he predicted.

Hogg, 66, first won the seat in a by-election in 1997 and has served three terms as MLA. He was the mayor of White Rock for 10 years before that.

Hogg has held several cabinet posts. He is currently government caucus chair and parliamentary secretary for non-profit partnerships.

"Each time I walk into the legislative building in Victoria, I feel really honoured to be able to represent the people of Surrey-White Rock," Hogg told the Now. "I want to give that a try again."

"I made the decision to run again because I want to ensure that future generations have a strong economy to depend on," he said.

Meanwhile, veteran Delta North NDP MLA Guy Gentner has decided not to seek re-election.

The veteran New Democrat MLA said he will retire from politics after serving his term. Gentner has been North Delta's MLA since 2005.

"I can't see myself being a sixty-something politician, as a career. I still see myself being an activist somehow," said Gentner, 57. tzytaruk@thenownewspaper.com
