A calendar of revealing photos of some local men has generated $2,500 for a pair of local charities.

Money raised by sales of the calendar, produced by those who run Jimmy Flynn's restaurant/bar in White Rock, has been shared by Prostate Cancer Canada and White Rock/South Surrey Hospice Society.

Close to 250 of the 2012 calendars were sold in recent months, at $12.50 apiece.

After production costs, $10 from each sale was donated to charity.

The fundraising effort was inspired by the 2003 comedy movie Calendar Girls.

"Friends of mine convinced me to do something similar, for charity," said Paul McDonough, co-owner/operator of the Marine Drive eatery.

"My first reaction was, I'm going to need some convincing."

Ultimately, McDonough posed for a photo on a motorbike wearing only underwear and sandals.

Friends and bar patrons also got involved in the fun.

"You're not going to confuse this one with the firefighters' calendar," McDonough said with a laugh. "A couple of the guys (in the calendar) have six packs, but mostly we're dealing with full kegs."

Semiahmoo Fish & Game Club celebrates World Wetlands Day during a special event this weekend.

MUSEUM SET TO REOPEN

Surrey Museum is set to reopen after its seasonal closure with the exhibit BC Electric: More Than Just a Tram.

The exhibit, presented in partnership with Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society and Chilliwack Museum, will open Tuesday, Feb. 7 and continue until March 24.
