Mounties need witnesses to come forward to advance their investigation into the shooting of a 33-year-old Vancouver man in Whalley last month.

The victim was shot in the arm and leg in the neighbourhood of 91st Avenue and 147A Street, at about 4: 30 a.m. on June 10. His wounds weren't life threatening. Police are investigating a motive but have determined the shooting wasn't gangrelated.

They found the victim lying in the front yard of a residence after he and a group of his friends were at a house party in the 9100block of 147th Street.

Police say more than 50 people were at the party where the victim got into a fight on the front lawn before he was shot.

"Since the start of the investigation numerous people have been located and spoken to," Surrey RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger said. "Police still need to speak with many more people that were present when the shooting took place and are believed to have witnessed the shooting itself.

"The victim is not known to police and there is no indication that he had prior issues with anyone attending the party," Grainger said.

Police ask witnesses to contact the Surrey RCMP's Serious Crimes Section at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
