It was one year ago on Friday, Sept. 28 that 19-year-old Maple Batalia was gunned down in the parking lot of SFU's Surrey Campus and in that time, friends and family haven't forgotten the mark left on their lives by the aspiring doctor.

While nobody has been charged in the case, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) continues to pursue any and all leads in the case.

"This heinous killing shocked the community and forced a loving family to forever deal with this tragic and unnecessary loss," said Sgt. Jennifer Pound in a statement.

"We know there are people within the community that have not come forward to the police. We want to reach those individuals and ask them to look at the devastation this murder has caused. We want to ask those individuals to do the noble thing and come forward."

In memory of Batalia's life, a short film will be shown at SFU Surrey tomorrow, with proceeds going to the Maple Batalia Bursery for the Arts.

The film is called Thy Beauty's Doom and draws inspiration from William Shakespeare's Sonnets 14 and 66.

The film starts at 2:30 p.m. in room 3090 of SFU Surrey and admission is $10.

Later that day, friends and family will be holding a candlelit vigil at the nearby Holland Park, which starts at 7 p.m.
