AUDITION TIME FOR PANTO, 'NUTCRACKER'

It's audition time for some fall/winter theatre and dance shows, including a couple of long-running productions in Surrey.

This week, Fraser Valley Gilbert & Sullivan Society is holding auditions for its 26th musical-comedy pantomime, called Phantom of the Panto.

A large cast of men, women and children is required for 10 lead parts and 20 members of the chorus and junior chorus, in which the minimum age is six.

The Reginald Pillay-produced panto, inspired by Phantom of the Opera, will hit Surrey Arts Centre's main stage from Nov. 28 to Dec. 9, with rehearsals set to begin Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Auditions for the show will be held in Surrey on Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 6. Because so many people are expected to want to get involved, auditions are by appointment only (send an email to fvgssproducer@gmail.com).

Meanwhile, Royal City Youth Ballet is holding auditions for its yearly production of The Nutcracker, which stops at Surrey Arts Centre for a number of shows from Dec. 13 to 16. Audition times are Sept. 9 and Sept. 16 in New Westminster. For details, call 604-521-7290 or visit www. royalcityyouthballet.org.
