Rich people need to give more for society

The Editor,

Re: "Teachers oblivious to big picture," thenownewspaper.com.

I agree with Now columnist Keith Baldrey's assertion that the money teachers want to hike their salaries could be used for more useful purposes throughout the province.

Baldrey is no doubt, however, aware that this issue exists within a much bigger picture that he does not acknowledge - that is, the contribution that the richest make.

If they were convinced to give even two per cent more, all of the ills of a healthy society could be financed - and it would not make an iota of difference in the rich people's lives. In fact, over the long-term, they would be richer.

I wish someday there were more journalists and publications who spread that message. That would something to be proud of.

Perhaps you might be thinking about writing about the whole big picture someday. You have the ability. Do you have the courage?
