A Surrey man caught speeding along Highway 5 north of Kamloops is $61,140 lighter after the RCMP seized a suitcase full of cash from the trunk of his car.
Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, of B.C.'s South East District RCMP, said the money was seized after the driver, whose name has not been released, was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
The arrest happened 2 p.m. Tuesday near Darfield, roughly 75 kilometres north of Kamloops.
Moskaluk said the Mountie initially stopped him for speeding. "While dealing with the driver the officer noted several indicators that caused him to enter into an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act."
Moskaluk told the Now he couldn't get into details. The driver was detained while a police dog sniffed through the car. The suitcase, containing a stack of Canadian cash, was found in the trunk.
