Adam Boran, 6, is now bald on account of his great big heart.

He, along with Surrey's top cop Bill Fordy and other senior officers from the Surrey RCMP, BC Sheriff Services and BC Corrections, went under the razor Thursday afternoon to raise a grand total of $15,000 for research to beat childhood cancer.

Adam climbed into the barber's chair in memory of his grandpa Dorel Boran, who died of cancer two years ago.

After his head was shaved, Adam said he felt pretty good but his head was "sorta" itchy.

Adam raised $595.

"I'm very proud of him," his mom Rikki Boran said. "Very proud."

Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts chopped off Supt. Bill Fordy's hair. Someone suggested she might think about having her head shaved next year. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

"I thoroughly enjoyed 'shearing' our police chief all in the name of such an important cause," Watts said. "And even a little bit of his legs!"

Fordy said he was glad to lose his hair for such a cause.

"I think the mayor has a second calling," he joked.

"I would also like to say a special thank you to Adam for showing such compassion and courage at such a young age."

The head-shave challenge was held outside Surrey provincial court.
