Two weeks after the bottom floor of Surrey Memorial Hospital was accidentally flooded, the emergency department will reopen on Monday, Dec. 3, at 8 a.m.

The Medical Imaging Department, also affected by the flood, will reopen the same day. CT Scans and two X-ray suites will be available, though the MRI is still undergoing repairs. Patients needing MRIs can receive them at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre.

On the morning of Nov. 19, the bottom floor of SMH - including the ER and medical imaging areas - filled with muddy water after a main water pipe was ruptured by construction equipment during renovations.

Twenty-five admitted patients were moved to other parts of the SMH while new patients were diverted to other hospitals, including Peace Arch and Royal Columbian Hospitals. A temporary off-site emergency department was set up at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre.

Surrey Memorial Hospital is home to the busiest hospital emergency department in British Columbia.

Patients currently at the Outpatient Centre will be moved back to SMH throughout Dec. 3. BC Ambulance Service will also return to its regular response pattern.
