SURREY - An 18-year-old Surrey man has died from injuries he sustained when a car struck him as he was crossing Fraser Highway on May 22.

His is Surrey's fifth traffic fatality so far this year.

The man, whose name has not been released, was crossing the highway near Fleetwood Way when a black 2005 Honda Civic hit him. He wasn't crossing at a crosswalk.

He was taken to hospital, in critical condition. The driver stayed at the scene. Police say speed and alcohol weren't factors in the crash.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old Surrey motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital Thursday night with serious leg injuries after crashing in the 6800-block of King George Boulevard.

Police said the motorcyclist was driving in a bicycle lane when he sideswiped a van as it was turning right. The motorcycle bounced off its passenger side and hit a pickup truck that was waiting to turn onto King George. Police said alcohol and drugs weren't factors in the collisions. The drivers of the van and pickup weren't injured.

Police are asking witnesses to contact them at 604-599-0502.
