Surrey Memorial Hospital's emergency department should be reopened for patients by early next week.

Fraser Health spokesman Roy Thorpe-Dorward said Wednesday that the hospital doesn't have an exact day or time yet, but should have by the end of the week.

"We're on target for the very beginning of next week," he said.

Thorpe-Dorward said the $2 million to $3 million in flood damage that was caused recently by the breaking of a water main is "completely covered" by insurance. He anticipates an exact cost for the damage will be known within a couple of weeks.

"That's the estimate we're working with now," he said of the cost that's currently expected.
