A Surrey woman accused of running off to hide in some bushes after killing another motorist while driving drunk has been charged following a lengthy police investigation.
Natasha Leigh Warren, 34, is charged with dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving causing death, causing an accident resulting in death, and failing to stop at an accident causing bodily harm, in connection with the May 3, 2011 collision that killed Kassandra Marie Kaulius, 22, of Surrey.
It's taken nearly a year for charges to be laid.
Surrey RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger said the detachment's criminal collision investigation team "worked tirelessly" on the case, which involved numerous experts and a reenactment of the crash.
Kaulius was driving her BMW through the intersection of 152nd Street and 64th Avenue on a green light when a white Ford Econoline van broadsided her car at about 100 kilometres an hour. She died at the scene.
Kaulius was a scholarship-winning athlete who coached and played softball. She was also engaged.
