The date of Sunday, May 6 has been chosen for the second annual Laura Szendrei 5 & 10K Walk, Run and Roll event, at Burnsview Secondary in North Delta.

Money raised during the event will benefit the newly formed Laura Szendrei Memorial Scholarship Foundation Society. Each year, the society will present two sport scholarships to students from Delta secondary schools, according to a post on the website www. lswalkrunroll.com.

Laura, a 15-year-old Burnsview Secondary student, died in hospital a day after she was viciously beaten while walking along a path in the Mackie Park forest in September 2010. A trial for the juvenile charged with first-degree murder in her death is set to start in August.
