A volunteer cop with the Burnaby RCMP is the BC Conservative Party's MLA candidate in Surrey-Panorama.

Party leader John Cummins announced today (Thursday) that Kevin Rakhra, 28, will carry the Conservative banner into the May 14 provincial election. Rakhra has served with the RCMP as an auxiliary constable since 2006 and for the past three years has worked with a Surrey realty firm.

He will be running against Marvin Hunt, a veteran Surrey city councillor representing the BC Liberals, against the NDP's Amrik Mahil and Green Party candidate Sara Sharma. The riding has no incumbent MLA because Liberal cabinet minister Stephanie Cadieux, who was first elected to Surrey-Panorama in 2009, is now seeking office in Surrey-Cloverdale after long-time Liberal MLA Kevin Falcon decided not to run again.
