A candlelight vigil in memory of federal NDP leader Jack Layton will be held tonight (Thursday) at Holland Park in Whalley.
It will be at 8 p.m., at the central fountain. The park is located at the southwest corner of King George Boulevard and 100th Avenue.
"Jack was an extraordinary leader and his loss feels like a loss in our own family," said Sue Hammell, NDP MLA for Surrey-Green Timbers.
"I am deeply saddened." There will also be a book of remembrance to sign.
Layton's state funeral will be held Saturday afternoon in Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall.
He died Monday morning of cancer, at age 61.
