The first of White Rock's pier closures is set to take place starting Monday, March 18 and will last one week until March 25.
The closure will allow for crews to begin work on structural upgrades that will eventually see 16 support posts reinforced over the total length of the upgrades. City officials also noted that there would be loud noises associated with the work.
Following the first week of closures, the pier will face intermittent closures until all upgrades are completed, which is estimated for May 17. A city spokesperson was unable to provide details about further closures, noting that those decisions would be made once work has begun during this initial phase.
The project is expected to cost around $405,000, which will be funded by both the city and federal government.
