Two arrested after Subway robbery spree

Langley RCMP have arrested two Surrey residents believed to be involved in a string of robberies at eateries around the Lower Mainland.

Five Subway outlets in Surrey were hit in a matter of days, along with robberies at Edible Arrangements and pizza places in Langley and elsewhere.

On Feb. 8, anticipating another attempted robbery, Langley officers set up covert surveillance at a number of potential targets. At about 8 p.m., a Fresh Slice in North Langley reported a robbery and gave police a description of the getaway vehicle.

Police stopped the vehicle at an Esso station and arrested two people, both from Surrey.

Edward Joseph Biwer, 22, has been charged with nine counts each of robbery, assault with a weapon and disguise with intent. He is being remanded in custody until his court appearance on Feb. 22.

A woman, 31, was also arrested. She was released from custody pending a court appearance on Feb. 22 when she might face nine counts of robbery, which have been recommended to Crown counsel.
