New bazaar event for seniors

A new bazaar event for seniors will be launched at Chuck Bailey rec centre Thursday, Jan. 31.

The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., welcomes all seniors as vendors and/or shoppers.

For vendors, the tables are $10, and sellers keep all proceeds.

"We wanted to create an ongoing monthly event where seniors can meet in a friendly atmosphere with free refreshments and maybe even make a little money," said Evelyn Wallenborn, an organizer of the event. It's a project of Surrey Seniors' Planning Table, which is supported by the City of Surrey and United Way.

Vendors can sell crafts and "gently used household items" - anything that will fit onto an eight-foot table. For hygiene reasons, no food, used clothing or books will be allowed. Home-based businesses can also take part for a fee of $20. To register for a table, email gnolan85@gmail.com or phone 604-329-7323.

Free coffee and light refreshments will be served at the opening and musical entertainment will also be provided.

Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre is located at 13458 107A Ave., near Gateway Skytrain and bus stop.
