SURREY – Two teens have been found guilty of manslaughter in the death of Matthew Skura.

Skura, 21, died after being punched and kicked in the head in the parking lot of the West Winds Community Church in Cloverdale on May 28, 2009.

The two young men, who are now 17 and 18 years old, cannot be named due to a publication ban.

One of the youths was also convicted of assault causing bodily harm for punching one of Skura’s friends.

Justice Sunni-Stromberg-Stein delivered her verdict Thursday in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.

Skura had been hanging out with his friends in a church parking lot in the 6300-block of 176th Street when a brawl broke out with another group of youths.

At the time, his mom had said “Matthew could make a friend out of everybody. He had this wit and charisma about him. He was a good person and that’s what got him killed.”
