An even dozen Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals were handed out recently.
The medals were awarded by Surrey-Cloverdale MLA Kevin Falcon, Surrey-Panorama MLA Stephanie Cadieux and Surrey-Tynehead MLA Dave Hayer.
According to the provincial government, "Like her Majesty, those recognized have dedicated themselves to service to their fellow citizens, their community and their country."
The recipients are: Sherrold Haddad, Jassa Grewal, Dr. Gordon McDonald, Elsie Preedy, Stan Leyenhorst, Robb Dunfield, Will Rogers, Beverly Robinson, Beryl Hamilton, Debi Rumley, William McNamara and Allan Cleaver.
"I'm extremely proud to see these people recognized for their tremendous service," said Falcon. "They are distinguished men and women who have each worked tirelessly to enrich the community."
The commemorative medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the throne. During the year, 60,000 Canadians will be recognized for their service and accomplishments.
"I am inspired by the dedication and pride each recipient exudes; they are all very deserving of this honour," said Cadieux.
Hayer echoed the two other MLAs' comments and praise.
"These recipients exemplify the best in all of us, a life of service to our community, province and country," he said. "Their dedication to service for the greater good, which has gone far beyond their own personal interests, has not only improved the lives of so many, but serves as a positive role model for all."
