Surrey residents don't have to call city hall to report issues like potholes, illegal dumping, localized flooding and graffiti - there's an app for that.
The city has launched a mobile phone app from by SeeClickFix, a web tool designed to help concerned citizens submit non-emergency issues. The app allows iPhone, Android and Blackberry smartphone users to photograph and report concerns more quickly than by phoning or going to city hall.
"We are simplifying the process for reporting concerns, which will improve customer service, save time and money, and make it easier for City crews to locate problems," said Mayor Dianne Watts in a statement. "We hope it will lead to more issues being reported and fixed in a timely manner."
Using the phone's built-in GPS, the city can pinpoint the location of the service request as it's added to the city's workflow system. Users can also check for updates on their submitted requests. More than 50 per cent of issues reported through SeeClickFix in other cities have been repaired.
Residents can also see how Surrey stacks up against more than 25,000 cities worldwide that use the app by going to seeclickfix.com.
