The Target store at Scottsdale Centre could open to the public as early as Tuesday, May 7.
The retail outlet in North Delta will be among the first opened in B.C. by Target Canada.
In recent months, the 114,000-square-foot space on Scott Road has been renovated to erase any sign of the Zellers store there previously.
Inside, aisles are now stocked with merchandise Target Canada hopes will appeal to consumers on this side of the border.
The store at Scottsdale will open this coming Tuesday, a source told the Now, but media representatives with Target Canada won't confirm this date. It's believed a "soft opening" will occur, with a grand opening planned for later this month.
Locally, Target stores are also due open this month in Langley and Coquitlam, with a Surrey store, at 10151 King George Blvd., slated to open later this year.
On Monday morning (May 6), a media event at the Coquitlam store, on Barnet Highway, will include a tour led by Target Canada president Tony Fisher.
"Target's expansion into Canada represents an unprecedented undertaking in the history of the company," stated a media advisory. "We're busy working on the finishing touches to deliver on our 'Expect More. Pay Less' brand promise, and want to give you an exclusive sneak peek of what B.C. residents can expect as we get set to open this store in Coquitlam, along with additional select stores in Western Canada in the near future."
At Scottsdale Centre, merchants are very confident the Target store will attract additional customers to the mall.
Similar hype for an American retailer's entry into Canada greeted the spring 2004 opening of a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop in the mall parking lot.
Each of the Target Canada stores will employ between 150 and 200 people, Tamar Nersesian, a media relations rep for the company, told the Now in January. Close to 27,000 people will be employed at its planned 60 stores across Canada, she added.
"An investment of more than $10 million is being spent remodeling each location to ensure we're providing our guests with the true Target-branded shopping experience in all our stores," Nersesian wrote in an email to the Now.
"Our stores feature bright lighting, wide aisles and colourful signing, as well as a 'racetrack' aisle that helps guests shop around the store efficiently. Target takes pride in ensuring that guests have a great balance of choices across all merchandise categories within a range of price points."
